Being one of the few horror novels I actually attempted, this story will be the only version I will review briefly here. I always wanted to know what the fuss was about in Dangenronpa, and boy, did I find out.
MC Kaede wakes up inside a dark school, and finds out she is locked in alongside a very unique host of other students. Soon, a creepy bear appears and tells them that one of them has to die if they all want to live. Eventually, one of the students does turn up dead, and everyone is tasked with solving the murder. If the murder is not solved, the students are once again in danger. This is where the game turns very Ace Attorney - during a live session, one has to solve the case with accusations and rebuttals until the murderer is finally found.
To me, this game was a bit too violent, but I know I'm one of the few. In terms of quality, storytelling, art and characters, however, I can see where the popularity comes in. I was engaged, emotionally involved and even more importantly, the twists got me. That alone is impressive.
