So much to say, so little room! This game, in some ways, felt like a sequel to Code Realize...because the gangs all here. Almost, anyway - its a lot of the “children” of the famous literary characters, living in London during Victorian times. There are also some plot points that seemed eerily familiar. MC is found to have great detective skills by the Queen herself, and so is sent off to a special academy to become a detective. There, she encounters many skilled individuals and starts solving the mysteries of London’s deep underground.
The art is nice and I enjoyed the individual character designs. The story, on the other hand, needed some work. My main grievance is this: She is supposed to be this observant, clever detective but in comparison to her a bag of hammers is more intelligent. The cases are mostly not solved by her, but her companions, or through sheer dumb luck. I get that she’s naive, but she misses the most obvious clues, and instead just masters being the most damselly damsel that ever damselled. Thus I found most of the storylines incredibly weak. In the general endings where she doesn’t end up with someone in particular, it severely, heavily, undoubtedly hints that the story is nowhere near resolved but there is no sequel in sight. It’s a sad state of affairs, especially since I really liked where that was going. Finally, some of the tiny epilogues that follow once a character story seemed completely contrived, and missing the point. I really wanted to love this game, but I guess I have to settle for a lukewarm like.
