Throughout this two (or three) game story, the reader encounters several MCs. Mask’s MC is a baker who suddenly figures out she is part cat girl. Liar King revolves around a strong and hilariously forgetful MC trying to square off with a mysterious stranger who isn’t what he seems – definitely not the liar king. Not. At. All. The latter were really unique, the first set were more “standard issue” in terms of story/romance. I did acquire the next installment (How to sing to open your Heart) because the new MC and the future of couple number 2 are quite fascinating to me.

As a lot of indie games go, the art was spectacular! I also liked the whole sequel aspect: each game has a different MC and a different male storyline, but the stories are in succession. This allows for future glimpses of the former characters, like a type of epilogue for each former couple as the newest is pursued. The world is fascinating and the premise of the characters enticing. However, the stories themselves fell a bit flat for me. Although there was conflict worth considering, I felt like it wasn’t being taken seriously enough, the resolution was simplified and in game time fixed in only a few days (even though it had been going on for so much longer before game start), which seems short for both developing hardcore feelings and complex conflict resolution. The lack of bad endings did not help, I suppose. I tried to play both storylines in one of the games, and they did not vary greatly, therefore, I did not bother the second time. I started with Liar King, which was a mistake. It is the sequel. As such, when I made it around to Mask, I had already encountered a lot of the characters, but now they were in their previous state. It kind of ruins it, I would recommend not to do it this way.
